Dr. Mrinal Dhawan has completed his MD (Doctor of Medicine) in Sports Medicine from Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar, and his MBBS from Kasturba Medical College, Manipal. Soon after his specialization and prior to joining AktivHealth, Dr. Dhawan was working as a Sports & Exercise Medicine Physician/Specialist with Sports Authority of India, the National Sports Organization under the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Government of India for close to 2.5 years. He was actively and constantly involved as a Specialist medical officer-in-charge in catering to all musculoskeletal injuries & medical issues of elite national athletes (National Road and Track Cycling (Men & Women), Senior National Gymnastics (Men & Women), National Athletics, National Taekwondo and also Elite Senior National Women’s Boxing Camps, participating in events like Olympics, World Championships, Commonwealth & Asian Games.
Dr. Dhawan was also involved in setting up a Human Performance Laboratory at the headquarters of the organization at New Delhi, which included High Performance Technologies like the Anti-Gravity treadmills, Underwater Treadmills, Isokinetic Dynamometers etc. In addition, to his work profile in India, he had also been offered Clinical Fellowship/Observership Programmes overseas and thus had an opportunity to work in the Department of Sports and Exercise Medicine at University Hospitals of Leicester, NHS, professional football (Arsenal), rugby (Leicester Tigers) and cricket clubs (Leicestershire County Cricket Club) in the UK and also one of the FIFA Medical Centre of Excellence in Melbourne, Australia. His clinical and research focus are in the areas of Sports Traumatology and Rehabilitation, Interventional Sports Medicine, Sports Recovery and Sports Nutrition. He was also involved in teaching undergraduate and post-graduate medical/physiotherapy students. He has attended numerous clinical workshops, provided medical cover at various national and international sporting events and also has multiple publications in his field of clinical excellence.
