Postnatal care
Throughout your life your body undergoes many stresses and strains, so you need to take special postnatal care of yourself. At AktivHealth, we have a full understanding of many of the issues that concern women. With that in mind, we have developed the AktivWomen program specially to help you, our female patients.

What is the AktivWomen program?

AktivWomen is specially tailored to address an individual’s needs. Each program starts with a consultation with one of our doctors and a physiotherapist. This includes a comprehensive assessment. Once we have an overview of your conditions, then we can create a specialized program for you.

AktivWomen may include any of the following, depending on what you need, to get back to a full and Aktiv life:

Pelvic floor muscle training

Postnatal reconditioning

After having a baby, all women need to regain mobility and strengthen their core abdominal, back and pelvic floor muscles. Many women will also need cardio training to return to pre-pregnancy levels of fitness. Some may also need to address weight changes that occurred during pregnancy. Our safe and gentle Postnatal AktivExercise™ Program can help with these issues.

This exercise program includes specific mobility, core and back strengthening exercises conducted in a safe, medically supervised environment. This Medical Training Therapy will accelerate your postnatal recovery and will help you to function at pre-pregnancy levels.

We ensure you start at the right time, and focus on –

  • Postural awareness and improvement
  • Muscle strengthening
  • Pelvic floor muscle strengthening and Kegel exercises
  • Core activation with overall stability exercises
  • Optimum nutrition with our metabolic balance® weight management plan
  • Ergonomical guidance
The first question people ask is, “How soon can I start after the birth?” Based on many international guidelines, it is advisable to start 6 weeks after normal delivery and 12 weeks after a caesarean (C-section).

Pelvic Floor muscles (PFM) training is a major part of postnatal exercises after a natural or a caesarean birth. It is also important if you have pelvic floor muscle insufficiencies i.e. post-spinal injury, recurrent/chronic back pain with stress/urinary incontinence, core instability (the pelvic floor muscles form the basis of the core muscle group), neurological problems and age-related loss of urination control.

At AktivHealth, we train your pelvic floor muscles (PFM) with the use of our Bio-feedback Trainer, the Pelvic Floor Reformer, which is a special machine to help analyse the force of contraction of your PFM without any invasive device or manual technique. It trains your muscles to get stronger and allows you to maintain control.

Osteoporosis treatment

It is a common misconception that osteoporosis only affects older, post-menopausal women. But the fact is – it can start in one’s 30’s or even earlier in extreme cases. At AktivHealth, we have created our AktivOsteoporosis™ program in collaboration with the Institute of Osteology and Biomechanics at Hamburg University, Germany.

We follow these three steps:

1. Assessment – Comprehensive physical tests for bone mineral density, an analysis of your musculoskeletal and nervous system, overall balance and coordination.

2. Exercise – A systematic physiotherapy plan has been proven to increase overall bone density by 1% per annum. We devise a training plan for everyone’s needs and fitness levels.

3. Diet – Correct nutrition is important for the prevention and treatment of osteoporosis. We prescribe the metabolic balance® program. An individual plan is created for you, ensuring that your body receives all the nutrients that it needs.

Pelvic floor muscle training

Posture correction

This is another treatment that we provide under the AktivWomen program. A stooped posture is usually associated with the elderly, yet many teenage girls and young women have a tendency to stoop, especially during puberty. This can lead to a curved spine. Our program aims to correct this problem, address any muscular imbalance and strengthen core muscles to give you the confidence to stand up straight with your head held high.

Foot Orthotics

Many people, men and women, tend to ignore their feet. Women’s feet have the added strains of changes caused by pregnancy, high heels and tight shoes. Our foot orthotics program will ensure that your feet and lower legs are healthy and strong to support your active lifestyle. With our consultant podiatrist we offer specialized care.

We also offer customized insoles which are made in Germany using the most up-to-date European know-how and engineering. They are then customized in India, to fit your requirements exactly.

Long-term weight management with metabolic balance®

Metabolic balance® is a weight management program developed in Germany and has changed the lives of more than 700,000 people across 28 countries. AktivHealth exclusively holds the licence for metabolic balance® in India. Our trained nutritionists and metabolic balance® coaches help to create personalized nutrition plans which allow you to either gain or lose weight, as required, in a healthy and safe way.

Clinical Pilates

At AktivHealth, we run Pilates classes under the supervision of our fully trained physiotherapists – either one-on-one or in small groups of 2 to 4 people. Pilates is a series of body conditioning exercises that help you to build core strength, improving your flexibility, endurance and posture.

MTT (Medical Training Therapy)

MTT is supervised medical training that aims to rehabilitate and bring you back to optimum performance levels. After an initial Functional Assessment our trained physio and sports therapists will create an individual plan for you, using our range of German cardio and strength-building rehabilitation equipment.

The therapist will guide you through the program and adapt it as your fitness and strength grow.

If required, Pilates can be combined with MTT to give a more varied exercise program.
